Laura was born in Auburn and grew up in Nemaha County. She is an Auburn High School and Peru State College graduate. She has prior experience in coalition leadership through her work with Safe Kids Southeast, a group aimed at childhood injury prevention which she founded in 1999. She has volunteer leadership and fundraising experience not only through Safe Kids, but also through her work with Relay For Life for the American Cancer Society. She is also experienced as a journalist having reported for the Auburn Newspapers and the Lincoln Journal Star. In September 2011, Laura was recognized by Region V Systems as a "Community Hero" in prevention coordination, citing "her dedication to substance abuse prevention".

Ashleigh is new to Nemaha County, having moved here as her husband began work with Cooper Nuclear Station. Ashleigh graduated from Oklahoma Wesleyan University with a dual degree in Human Resources and Business. She has a strong background in office work duties, and she has a strong desire to be an active member of this area.
