Nemaha Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse Coalition (NADAA) has been named the recipient of the Youth Involvement Award in the Western Region of the RC&D. This prestigious award is given annually to a group that involves youth in providing solutions and/or processes that benefit their community and contribute to leadership development. NADAA was chosen over other nominations from the states of South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah and Idaho.
"NADAA won this award because it is the perfect example of how students, parents, and organizations can come together to make a big difference in the community," said Tammy Timms, Coordinator of the Five Rivers RC&D.
"Our coalition is deeply honored by this award," says NADAA Director Laura Osborne. "We are very proud of our youth volunteers in our Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol (YADA) Task Force, and we are also proud of our adult volunteers who make our youth programs possible. Kayleigh Whisler, our Youth Coordinator, deserves a lot of credit for the work she has done with the youth, leading directly to a marked increase in YADA membership."
"Having been named the local-level award recipient back in October, and now receiving the regional-level award is exciting for everyone involved in the coalition," says Osborne. "We are proud that we are putting a positive foot forward on behalf of Nemaha County at both the state and regional levels."
NADAA's award nomination now progresses on to a national-level competition that is held every couple of years within the RC&D.
Currently, there are more than 100 students participating in YADA from both District 23 and District 29 schools. Additionally, 153 adults, businesses and organizations throughout the county also participate in NADAA's activities. The coalition was founded by current NADAA Executive Board President, Monty Lovelace, and a group of local volunteers in 2005. Lovelace currently serves on the Five Rivers RC&D Council.
