Government

NADAA is governed by a combined effort of its coalition membership through a majority vote of those present at meetings as well as the coalition's executive board. 2009 executive Board members are:

Funding

NADAA is funded through grants and donations. The majority of funding is provided from a federal grand called "Drug Free Communities." This grant is a five year grant providing $100,000.00 per year. However, the coalition must re-apply for funding every year showing updated action plans, recent statistics, and progress toward goals. Other grants are applied for as they become available, and often include mini-grants from Region V Systems as well as other state and federal grants. Private donations are made to the coalition from businesses, organizations, and individuals from Nemaha County. These donations, combined with in-kind donations of items and volunteer time, must match the amount of money provided throught the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant. For NADAA, the match exceeds the DFC funding match thanks to the generosity of our area's citizens and organizations.

Awards

2011 Award Picture

President’s Award: This award is chosen by the Coalition Executive Board President each year to honor an individual, business or organization who have contributed to NADAA’s mission and goals. The 2011 recipient was selected by current President Carie Allen because this individual has been known to be a “fireball”, a “spark plug” and a steady contributor to NADAA’s events and activities. She has demonstrated leadership through her active involvement in and participation with NADAA staff and volunteers throughout the year at a variety of activities and levels. This year's recipient of the President’s Award is Elaine Hanson of Peru.

Youth Honorable Mention Recognition: Youth from both school districts whose efforts during the past year were recognized with honorable mention certificates were:

Youth Leadership Award District 23 Public Schools: The recipient of the Youth Leadership Award from Johnson-Brock Public Schools is a volunteer who has been an active member of NADAA’s youth task force Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol (YADA). She has volunteered her time at several events and activities during the past year, and is currently demonstrating her leadership capabilities by serving on the planning committee for YADA’s upcoming youth leadership conference. Her commitment to YADA and NADAA have remained strong, even as demands on her time increase as she continues through her high school years. The recipient of the 2011 District 23 Youth Leadership Award is sophomore Amzie Dunekacke.

Youth Leadership Award District 29 Public Schools: The recipient of the Youth Leadership Award from Auburn Public Schools is an individual who has been a member of NADAA’s youth task force, Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol (YADA) since its inception. He has helped with numerous events over the past four years. He most recently has been serving on the committee planning the YADA youth leadership conference, and he served on the Red Ribbon Family Festival planning committee this year where he took on a leadership role organizing and coordinating new event partnerships. He has been described as being always ready to work on YADA and NADAA projects with a willing spirit. The recipient of the 2011 District 29 Youth Leadership Award is sophomore Joshua Osborne.

Meritorious Service Award: This award is presented to an organization, business or civic group who has provided an exemplary level of partnership with NADAA. This year’s recipient has been quietly supporting the coalition since it began. They provide NADAA with an outlet to distribute prevention messaging and assist in keeping the NADAA table cloth clean for events. This year’s Meritorious Service Award is presented to The Cleaners of Auburn.

Partner in Prevention Award: This award honors an adult who has shown an outstanding commitment to substance abuse prevention efforts. This year’s recipient has fulfilled this role in a manner that isn’t easily visible on the surface. The honoree has spent more than 25 years working to combat crime in Nemaha County. This person has been certified as a law enforcement officer for most of that time. Simply looking at arrest statistics does not give a true picture of the recipient’s contribution to the general safety and welfare of our county. Nomination information noted that when he does make an arrest, the case is typically reliable and solid for the prosecution. This officer applies his understanding of small town life, gained from being born and raised in Nemaha County, to his police work. He cares about the people he encounters in his job more than he cares about the number of tickets he writes or the number of arrests he makes. He is known for being fair and for being a calming presence. The 2011 Partner in Prevention Award goes to Sergeant Eric Adams of the Auburn Police Department.
