Some statistics

Starting in 2007, both Nemaha County school districts agreed to participate in a state survey of students regarding behaviors related to drugs and alcohol. This survey was administered in the fall of 2007 and again in the fall of 2010. The results are used to help guide the coalition's efforts at reduction of substance abuse among youth. When comparing 2007 data to 2010, there is a noticeable decrease in some areas of substance-related risk behaviors among Nemaha County youth, such as the number of students who have ever tried consuming more than just a sip of alchol, a decrease in the number of students who had consumed alcohol in the 30 days prior to taking the survey, and the amount of students who have ever abused inhalants in their lifetime. The results also show that more work needs to be done to reduce the amount of students consuming alcohol overall, the amount of students who use marijuana, and other substance abuse-related behaviors.
